Saint Mary’s Hospital

Dr. Steven Schneider began his tenure as Saint Mary’s Hospital President in January 2018. He now leads one of six hospitals in the Trinity Health Of New England regional healthcare ministry.

Previously serving as president of Franklin Medical Group, Dr. Schneider doubled the Provider roster and nearly tripled those that practice primary care. He also helped Saint Mary’s establish five urgent care centers, located in Cheshire, Naugatuck, Wolcott and on East and Main Streets in Waterbury. The goal, according to Dr. Schneider, was to have core hospital resources available to anyone in Saint Mary’s service area within a ten minute driving distance from where they live.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical School, Dr. Schneider began his medical career at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis, Washington. He trained there in Emergency Medicine, then went on to Fort Benning, Georgia at the Martin Army Hospital as Chief of Emergency Medicine. He attained the rank of Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. After leaving the military, Dr. Schneider completed his Residency in Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, before moving to Pennsylvania to work as Chief of Inpatient Psychiatry at Allegheny General Hospital. He also served at Medical Director of Allegheny Neuropsychiatric Institute before settling in Connecticut.
