Michael Carroll Culhane has been affiliated with Saint Mary’s Hospital since the 1980s, principally because his father, Dr. M. Carroll Culhane, was Chief of Staff of the hospital, and his mother, Rosemary, was President and a life member of the Saint Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary.

Mr. Culhane is the fourth Executive Director of the Connecticut Catholic Conference, which is the public policy office of the Catholic bishops of Connecticut. Since 2007, Mr. Culhane has overseen the strategy of the Conference as it relates to every legislative issue which affects the Catholic Church coming before the Connecticut General Assembly.

Prior to his appointment to the Conference, Mr. Culhane was the principal of Michael C. Culhane Associates, a Waterbury lobbying firm which was involved in legislative, as well as administrative matters within the State of Connecticut. He also represented the Interests of management concerning labor disputes in both the public and private sector.

In October of 2009, Mr. Culhane was invested as a Knight of Malta at St. Matthew Cathedral in Washington, DC. In 2010, he was a co-founder of the Malta House of Care in Waterbury, which is a mobile healthcare van providing free primary health care to the uninsured population of Greater Waterbury. He currently serves as Chairman of its Board.
