Estate planning
Planned gifts to support Saint Mary’s Hospital are typically not written from an individual’s checkbook. Instead, planned giving is a natural result of individuals, couples and families reflecting upon their life’s work, their values and their priorities. This level of giving remembers the expert medical care, the compassion of a health care provider, the needs of those who are less fortunate and the expensive necessity of state-of-the art technology, equipment and facilities. In partnership with an attorney and bank, Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation works with donors to determine how their life’s legacy might benefit the life’s mission of Saint Mary’s Hospital. These gifts might include investments, estate bequests, charitable annuities or charitable trusts.
Each of these donations is carefully calculated with a team of professionals to ensure maximum benefit to the donor and Saint Mary’s Hospital. Individuals considering a planned gift are encouraged to work one-on-one with the Foundation Office who can share the history of other planned gifts to the hospital as well as suggestions for areas where a gift would be of greatest benefit. Further, the Foundation Office has access to talented, experienced attorneys and bank officers who can advise donors on the advantages of including Saint Mary’s Hospital in their life’s financial plan.
Today the Legacy Society at Saint Mary’s Hospital recognizes donors who contribute a lasting legacy for patients and families today through a planned gift to the hospital. Through the generosity of these donors, Saint Mary’s Hospital’s continues its nearly 100 year old legacy in the Greater Waterbury area of excellent health care from compassionate and expert medical staff for all patients, regardless of income.
Leaving a lasting legacy for Saint Mary's Hospital
The Reverend Walter A. Vichas served as vice-chair of the Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation Board during his tenure as pastor of Blessed Sacrament. A staunch supporter of the Hospital’s vision to provide quality care without regard for income, Rev. Vichas left his personal family residence to Saint Mary’s upon his passing in 2008.
