Annual Fund

Each year, Saint Mary’s Hospital looks to our Hospital community – both inside and out – to help us meet our founder's goals offering expert medical care regardless of patient income. Drastic increases in health costs, medically-necessary technology and equipment coupled with downward-spirally insurance reimbursement, necessitate the need for philanthropic dollars. With over 230,000 patient visits annually, Saint Mary’s Hospital is among the largest non-profit organizations in all of greater Waterbury. Saint Mary’s donates charitable dollars to members of our community in the form of free health care.

Through annual appeals to our physicians, our own staff, our Foundation board members and our volunteers, Saint Mary’s Hospital Community donates our own dollars back to Saint Mary’s. We believe this selfless act of generosity is testament to the strength of the Saint Mary’s family and our commitment to the vision and message that is Saint Mary’s Hospital.

Saint Mary’s Health System goes wireless with $225,000 grant from The David, Helen and Marion Woodward Fund.

The David, Helen and Marion Woodward Fund, Watertown Committee awarded a $225,000 grant over three years to Saint Mary’s to help fund construction of a wireless network throughout the hospital. Physicians and clinicians will have mobile computing access from clinical departments and nursing stations directly to patient bedside. Further, visitors to Saint Mary’s will have wireless access in patient rooms as well as public spaces including the lobby, cafeteria and Jazzman Café.

Chief Information Officer Carolyn Orrell gratefully recognized the Woodward Fund’s contribution to continuously improving technology at Saint Mary’s Hospital. “Wireless access will not only be a convenience for patients and visitors, but will directly improve patient care.”

The Woodward Fund has previously supported Saint Mary’s Hospital with gifts for cardiac care and patient support. In September of 2006, the Fund awarded a $250,000 gift supporting renovations to the hospital lobby to provide patients and visitors with improved access.

The Woodward Fund was established by Marion W. Ottley in honor of her parents David and Helen Woodward. The Fund supports non-profit organizations in education, social services and health care awarding grants to applicants whose efforts benefit the local community.
